COSMETIC DENTISTRY
Creating Beautiful Smiles
Cosmetic dentistry is generally used to refer to any dental work that improves the appearance of teeth, gums and/or bite. It primarily focuses on improvement of dental aesthetics in colour, position, shape, size, alignment and overall smile appearance. Among the various procedures of cosmetic dentistry available to you are:
Crown
Sometimes known as dental cap, is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant.
Bridges
This procedure is used to replace one or more missing teeth and is cemented in. Most bridges are fixed and they can’t be removed. Fixed bridges cannot be taken out in the same way that partial dentures can.
Veneers
These are ultra-thin, custom-made porcelain laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth. They are an option for closing gaps, enhance the shape, or change the colour of teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures.
Filling
There are a variety of different materials that can be used for filling teeth. Among them, Composite resin fillings (more commonly known as white fillings, tooth-colored fillings, and direct veneers) are made up of very tiny pieces of silica surrounded by a plastic resin usually composed of bis-GMA.
Whitening
Whitening or "tooth bleaching" is the most common cosmetic dental procedure. While many whitening options are now available, including over the counter products, dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discoloured teeth.
